Watch this space for details of events in Horton and the surrounding area. We'll keep this section updated on a regular basis but things you might want to put in your diary are the Three Peaks Fell race that takes place on the last Sunday in April. Horton Gala, which incorporates the Pen y Ghent Fell Race, takes place in June. Horton Show is held in September each year and this shows off the best of the livestock in the area as well as local crafts and produce. There is an active local history group that has talks on a monthly basis in the Village Hall and other venues. During the summer months there are guided walks to areas of interest. For steam enthusiasts there are steam trains on the Settle Carlisle line on a regular basis particularly during the summer and at Bank Holiday times.

For the events outlined above, actual dates will be posted as they become available.

HOLME FARM CAMPSITE DETAILS 01729 860281

For those who are coming to Horton and prefer to camp the contact details for the campsite are as follows. Mr Chris Sutcliffe, Holme Farm, Horton in Ribblesdale, telephone 01729 860281. It's advisable to book in advance as it has a limit on the number of tents that are allowed and on busy weekends does get full.

Three Peaks Ale now in stock
We now stock Three Peaks Ale, labelled exclusively for Horton Post Office. The quality bottled ale has different labels depicting each of the Three Peaks, Pen y Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside. There is also a fourth version, Horton in RibblesdALE, with a label showing St Oswalds Church with Pen y Ghent in the background. They're ideal as a momento of doing the Three Peaks or as a gift from Horton in Ribblesdale.  The ales retail at £1.75 a bottle.

Helwith Bridge Hotel

If you want the best in real ale then visit the Helwith Bridge Hotel 2 miles south of Horton, which is a current CAMRA Pub of the Season, and you won't be disappointed ! Among the regular beers are Charles Well's Brewery's Bombardier and  Morland's Old Speckled Hen as well as other guest beers always served in peak condition. The food's not bad either and Thursday evening is half price steak night where you can get a 16ounce steak and all the trimmings for only £9. This pub is definitely worth a visit.

Three Peaks Cyclo Cross

An excellent race in changeable weather conditions. Rob Jebb won in 3:01 with Nick Craig and Dave Collins (Scott UK team) in second and third. Louise Robinson was first lady in 3:54:05. Well done to all those riders who took part in this very tough event. Click here for the 3 Peaks Cyclo Cross website for a full list of results.

POST OFFICE CLOSURE
Post Office Ltd have now officially closed the facility within the shop. From Monday 23 June Settle Post Office will offer an outreach service from the Crown Hotel for 5 hours per week in total on a Monday afternoon and Thursday morning. This is clearly a much reduced service from that offered by ourselves but at least the village retains some level of Post Office provision. Please continue to support the shop where it will definitely be business as usual. .
